What to expect at Haines

H     Harmony is a theme with the blending of five elementary schools into one student body, creating an atmosphere that is tailored to this grade, age and interests. Our concept of four teams allows teachers to focus more on individuals in small learning communities. The teachers will know each child not only as a learner but also as a person.

A   Academic Program with four core subjects (Language Arts Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science) enhanced by exploratory areas of art, music, gym, health and Spanish. Academics are rigorous and engaging. Our teachers are specialists in their subject and are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the content the students are learning.

I Integration of technology is prevalent in the classrooms at Haines. Promethean boards are in every academic room. This interactive white board enables teachers to create dynamic lessons. Flip Charts and Quiz Pods will become part of the student's learning experiences. This multi-media experience we know is something the students enjoy!

N New teachers, new friends and new subjects are all a part of the transition that the staff is prepared to assist students as they navigate these areas.  Team building in the opening days of school, allow students to interact with classmates in a fun atmosphere. The teachers guide students through the differences in a middle school and model successful strategies like study skills and organizational methods.

E Extracurricular activities are abundant.  Student might chose something new or maybe continue with an already established favorite hobby/interest. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

S Success!

These letters help to give you a taste of what Haines Sixth Grade Center is all about. But… the biggest part of what Haines is about is STUDENTS!
